On behalf of the Police Week event and myself, I wish to extend our appreciation for coming to the event and demonstrating some personal safety tips for women. I myself was absolutely amazed at some of the techniques that were demonstrated and after seeing it felt very strongly that it should be a mandatory course for all women.
Kathy Friederici, Community Programs Manager, Traffic Safety Programs Dept., Insurance Corporation of British Columbia This letter is written on behalf of the ladies at Van Waters & Rogers, Ltd., Vancouver, to express sincere appreciation and thanks for a most informative program. We were so overwhelmingly impressed that we have decided to meet at least once a month to review what we have learned. Thierry Postma, Inside Sales, Industrial Chemical Dept., Van Waters & Rogers, Ltd. Hands OFF! Personal Safety for WomenAn assailant can be anyone, and recognizing such a person in advance may not always be possible. Most offenders appear normal and often, they are not strangers to their victims. The prime objective is to recognize, avoid and get out of an assailant's control.Hands OFF! Personal Safety for Women is a program comprised of a DVD and book that provides women with options to avoid assault, and when necessary, to physically and safely escape the incident.
MaterialsThe program includes a DVD and a book containing full descriptions of techniques covered. With a little practice participants build confidence, a confidence that will show and that is a goal of the Hands OFF! program. ![]() “Seeking Fear” is a feature film spinoff of the Hands Off program. Starring international star Lisa Ray this movie recently won “Best Feature” at the New York Independent Film and Video Festival. Seeking Fear is an action-drama with a twist, dealing with the important issue of women’s safety within the context of an exciting feature film. The film’s storyline is based on the knowledge garnered over many years by the film’s director (Robin Webb) from convicted sex offenders in the prison system and by talking with countless victims of sex crimes. This allowed the filmmakers to craft a true-to-life core dialogue between protagonist Trudy McCormick (a police profiler) and serial rapist Ted Lipton, which frames the re-enactment of his crimes as we trace the evolution of a criminal mind from his first offense through a frightening series of acts. As Trudy gains insight from Ted, she is able to help her long-time friend, Special Victims Unit detective Nina Atwal, as Nina over comes her personal demons to finally apprehend the man who raped her twin sister eight years ago. |
